TOKYO, Japan: Kyodo News has reported that Japan’s Ministry of Defense is developing multiple long-range missiles with a range of up to about 3,000 kilometers (1,860 miles), and aims to deploy them in the 2030s.

The Japanese government also seeks to develop a 2,000-km range missile by the early 2030s, as well as a 3,000-km hypersonic missile that can strike anywhere in North Korea and some parts of China by 2035, the agency added.

In December, Japan announced a $320 billion plan that will include buying missiles capable of striking China and enable it to maintain a sustained conflict, under its largest military build-up since World War Two.

The move comes amidst regional tensions and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
