The secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, says a well-articulated, structured, inclusive and institutionalised approach to policy management is fundamental to achieving the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

Mr Akume said this at a Stakeholders’ Validation Session on the Draft National Policy Development and Management Framework in Abuja.

The SGF stated that policymaking was not a theoretical exercise but a practical tool for governance and a mechanism through which governments translated national aspirations into concrete actions.

Mr Akume described the session as an opportunity to refine the framework into an instrument that will endure and ensure that public policy is driven by data, aligned with national goals, and responsive to the dynamic needs of the country.

”President Bola Tinubu remains committed to strengthening institutional frameworks, fostering a governance approach that was focused on its citizens.

“Governance thrives when policies and policy architecture itself is designed with input from diverse stakeholders and when their implementation is active and deliberate.

“This process cannot be left to changes, chances, nor can it afford the luxury of indecisions,” he said.

Mr Akume said his office is responsible for ensuring that policies are developed in line with national priorities and effectively implemented, monitored, and adopted in response to emerging realities.

“Effective governance is built upon a foundation of strategic coordination, institutional synergy, and policy coherence.

“As the central hub for policy alignment and government-wide coordination, my office is committed to ensuring that national policies are not only well-conceived but also effectively harmonised and implemented,” Mr Akume said.

He said the validation session was a testament to that commitment, adding that it was an opportunity to reinforce structures that promote efficiency, accountability, and results-driven governance.

“As we refine this framework, we move closer to institutionalising a governance culture where policies translate seamlessly into tangible outcomes for all Nigerians.

“Let us be clear; no framework, no matter how well-crafted, can succeed without a collective commitment to implementation. As we deliberate today, let us approach this exercise with a sense of purpose and responsibility.

“This validation session is not just about fine-tuning a document; it is about setting a new standard for governance in Nigeria,” he said.

Mr Akume said his office was about laying a strong foundation for an era where policies are not just aspirational statements but instruments of real and measurable transformation.
