Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has encouraged residents to partake in efforts to preserve culture in creative ways expressed through short videos shared on social media.
“We want to enhance our diversity, and we continue to encourage those aspects to be part of the diverse content that showcases Indonesia,” the ministry’s Director of Film, Music, and New Media, Ahmad Mahendra, stated here Wednesday.
He highlighted that social media had become the primary platform to spread information and viral content.
Social media must be utilized to disseminate positive information, including campaigns to preserve cultural aspects and resilience as well as efforts to preserve the national culture, the official noted.
Narratives about diversity must be developed and disseminated to residents, particularly members of the young generation, to help them understand that Indonesia has cultural diversity that can be tapped as attractive social media content, Mahendra expounded.
The ministry’s director stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had been causal to a surge in social media content and residents’ awareness of digital technology. The pandemic compelled residents to become creative in creating new digital content, such as vlogs, podcasts, and short videos, that can attract viewers, he added.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to becoming a facilitator to collaborate with communities in creating positive content and improving the quality of cultural content on social media.
“The government will not stay still to facilitate what all parties, including content creators, needed,” Mahendra stated.
He also highlighted that improving social media literacy among residents to ensure creation of positive digital content was among the existing challenges that must be addressed.
“The government is keen that all parties upload positive content for our common benefit,” the director remarked.
