Mrs Vivour said details of offenders that will be published includes the name, picture, nature of the offence and the punishment meted in terms of duration of sentences by the court.

Lagos State Government on Thursday announced its readiness to begin publication of names and pictures of sex offenders in in the state.

The announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour, during a press conference at the agency’s office.

Mrs Vivour said details of offenders that will be published includes the name, picture, nature of the offence and the punishment meted in terms of duration of sentences by the court.

The decision, she said, is in line with the provisions of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, section 42, which empowers the agency to publish details of those convicted of sex offences in the state from time to time, to serve as deterrent to others.

Mrs Vivour said that letters of advisory have been sent to all the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state to inform traditional rulers where such convicts reside.

She added that the government of Lagos state is resolute in preventing cases of sexual and domestic violence in the state.

Members of the public were then urged to report any case of domestic and sexual violence to the toll-free number, 08000333333.
