Governor of Yahaya Bello has been leading a disinformation crusade against COVID-19 and vaccination drive.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Thursday, disclosed that every state in Nigeria has received supplies of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, except Kogi State.
According to Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director of NPHCDA, Kogi State is yet to receive the vaccine “due to the non-repair of their cold-chain store coupled with the state’s concerns around the contradictory information about the vaccines”.
Governor Yahaya Bello has been leading a disinformation crusade against COVID-19 and vaccination drive. He told Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, that COVID-19 is not the business of people in his state, adding that they have more pertinent issues to tackle, including diseases like Yellow Fever and Lassa Fever, without much noise about its efforts.
The governor also noted on the programme, aired on March 5 that if the federal government makes the vaccine available to them, he will ensure that those who want it get vaccinated, but he is not going to make them guinea pigs by forcing them.
“But I’m not going to subject the people of Kogi state to vaccination, or I will not make them guinea pigs”, he said.
When asked if he was going to emulate other governors by taking the vaccine publicly, he said: “I don’t need the vaccine; nothing is wrong with me. I’m hale and hearty — 100 percent hearty.”
