The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said 12 people died and five others sustained varying degrees of injury in a lone accident that occurred in Kano.

The state FRSC Sector Commander, Muhammed Bature, said that the accident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. on Friday at Samawa Village in the Garun Malam Local Government Area, on the Zaria–Kano highway.

Mr Bature, in a statement in Kano, said the accident involved a DAF CF95 truck with registration number KMC 931 ZE loaded with goods.

He said that the incident involved 19 persons, with 12 persons dead, five others sustaining injuries and two unhurt.

The sector commander explained that the accident occurred when the truck lost control and crashed because its cab detached from its body due to a mechanical failure in the truck’s cab hook.

He said, “The deceased victims were evacuated and deposited at Nasarawa Hospital, while the injured were taken to Kura General Hospital for medical attention.’’

The sector commander cautioned drivers against speeding, dangerous driving, and other unwholesome practices that might endanger lives and property.
