As the race for the 2023 elections continues, two serving governors from the Northeast under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are perfecting plans to position themselves to run as vice-presidential candidates of the party.

The ambitions of the two governors to run as vice-presidential candidates is believed to be jeopardising the interest of three national chairmanship aspirants from the region, DAILY POST gathered.

The two APC governors and a former governor from the Northeast, it was gathered, are keen to be picked as presidential running mates while three aspirants from the region are jostling for the national chairmanship position.

It was also reliably gathered that two APC governors and a former governor from the Northeast are keen to be picked as a presidential running mate while three aspirants from the region are jostling for the national chairmanship position.

Our sources informed that the Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of APC and the Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum and his immediate predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, are being touted as possible vice presidential candidates.

Those jostling for the chairmanship position of the party from the region include former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, Mr. Sunny Moniedafe and former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda.

However, the spokesperson to Buni, Mr. Mamman Mohammed, denied the rumour.

He said the governor has no such ambition and has not discussed a vice-presidential aspiration with anybody.

Mamman said Buni, as far as he was concerned, is on a mission to conduct a successful national convention that will give the party victory in 2023.
