‘Russian aggression killed 3 Georgian fighters in Ukraine,’ according to Shalva Papuashvili

TBILISI, Georgia

Three Georgian volunteer fighters were killed in Ukraine while they were fighting for Ukraine against Russia, said the chairman of the Georgian parliament on Saturday.

Shalva Papuashvili noted: “Unfortunately, the war continues and the casualties are increasing. The Russian aggression killed three Georgian fighters in Ukraine.”

“I share the grief of the families and relatives of Davit Ratiani, Gia Beriashvili, and Bakhva Chikobava,” he said.

Reiterating Georgia’s solidarity with Ukraine, Papuashvili added: “Our support for the Ukrainian people is unwavering. Our friendship is centuries old and I believe it will get stronger.”

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said last week volunteers from 52 countries around the world have arrived in Ukraine to join the fight against Russia.

According to UN estimates, at least 847 civilians have been killed and 1,399 injured in Ukraine since the war started on Feb. 24.

The UN, however, has said the figures are likely to be much higher.

More than 3.32 million people have fled from Ukraine, while some 6.5 million are estimated to be internally displaced, according to the UN refugee agency.
