ONDA, Spain: A 55-year-old man has been gored to death during a bull-run in the eastern Spanish town of Onda.
The man, who died at a hospital in the nearby town of Villareal, was gored by the bull at the Fira de Onda Festival, sustaining a head wound and a punctured artery in his left thigh.
While other events at the festival will continue, the local council has cancelled future bull-running events.
As debate is raging in Spain over whether bull runs should be abolished, only a handful of such events have been held.
In addition to being a long-held tradition in Spanish culture, bull runs are also held in neighboring France and Portugal, and during some festivals, the bulls are eventually used in bull-fighting tournaments.
Injuries to people have been common during bull runs are common. Since 1910, at least 16 runners have been killed during the San Fermn festival in Pamplona.
