JAKARTA
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the west coast of Indonesia’s Northern Sumatra province early Tuesday, according to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.
The quake occurred at 0456GMT at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
The tremor was recorded offshore west of Sumatra island, a region situated along the seismically active Pacific “Ring of Fire.”
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
