Muhammadu Sanusi has urged Nigerians to stop insulting the leaders. The dethroned emir of Kano said to get things working in the country, citizens must be ready to suffer.
Mr Sanusi who is also the leader of the Tijaniyya sect in Nigeria made this statement while addressing members of the religious group in Sokoto on Tuesday.
“In my own knowledge about the economy, I know that we must suffer to get things right. We must desist from abusing or cursing our leaders because the Holy Prophet discouraged that,” Mr Sanusi said.
He urged Nigerians to pray fervently, be patient and hold the government accountable for development of the country.
“We shall not involve ourselves in corrupt practices and other atrocities because our religion preaches against it.
“When you are approached during elections, you need to ask for recognition in terms of school construction, health facility and other services,” Mr Sanusi said.
Peoples Gazette in August reported how governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, a friend of Mr Sanusi, took N25 million from the state’s treasury to host the former emir and top politicians to a maiden edition of the annual Muhammadu Sanusi II colloquium.
