The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said the acceleration of technology innovations and online business transactions amplify vulnerability opportunities that cybercriminals exploit to commit crimes.

NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, who disclosed this at the 2nd Cybersecurity Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, added that cybercriminals slow down the gains of the digital economy in the country.

“Undoubtedly, the pace at which technology advances, acceleration of innovations and enterprise in the digital space amplifies vulnerability opportunities, which malicious parties are quick to exploit, thereby slowing down the gains of the digital economy’’, Danbatta, who was represented by NCC’s Executive Commissioner (Stakeholders Engagement), said.

The NCC boss however said the telecom regulatory agency was working frantically to build a strong cybersecurity stronghold that will reduce vulnerabilities in Nigeria’s digital economy.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), who was represented at the event by Brigadier General, Samad Akesode, said the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) would join hands with NCC to mitigate any risk that will emanate as the country embraces advanced technology to facilitate digital transformation in the country.
