3 Gupta brothers have been on Interpol wanted list for fleeing justice in South Africa
JOHANNESBURG
South African authorities confirmed late Monday that two members of the wealthy Indian Gupta family who are accused of defrauding the country have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services confirms that it has received information from law enforcement authorities in the United Arab Emirates that fugitives of justice, namely Rajesh and Atul Gupta, have been arrested,” the department said in a short statement.
Ajay Gupta, the third in the trio on Interpol’s wanted list, was apparently not among those caught in the Gulf country
The brothers, who enjoyed close relations with then-President Jacob Zuma, fled South Africa for Dubai with their families shortly after Zuma resigned in 2018.
“Discussions between various law enforcement agencies in the UAE and South Africa on the way forward are ongoing,” the statement added.
