Country’s current population is less than 10.5M, according to Hellenic Statistical Authority

ANKARA

Greece’s population shrank by 3.5% over the last decade, local media reported Tuesday, citing the country’s statistics agency.

According to the latest census completed this year by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the country’s current population is 10,432,481, said Greece’s state-run AMNA news agency.

This indicates a 3.5% decline in the population compared with the 10,815,197 recorded by the last census in 2011.

Females accounted for 51.3% of the total population at 5,357,232, while there were 5,075,249 males, it noted.

The report also revealed that nearly 3.8 million people live in the decentralized region of Attika, which includes the capital Athens and the nearby port city of Piraeus.
