A new report has revealed that over 1.1 million applications were removed from the Google Play Store in the first half of 2022.

A survey of the Google Play Store detailed that the android distribution platform significantly cut down the number of available apps since the beginning of the year.

The report noted that “more than 1.1 million apps have been removed from the Google Play Store in the first half of 2022.”

“Google removed more than a staggering 1.3 million apps from its app store in the first quarter of this year alone, with the total number of apps falling to 3.3 million,” the report explained.

According to the study, Google banned the apps after publishing a laundry of guidelines for app developers because they were subpar and rule-breaking apps.

“However, to ensure the quality and trustworthiness of the apps within its app market, Google has released a series of policies to regulate app developers. As a result, thousands of low-quality and policy-violating apps have been removed by Google Play periodically,” the report further stated.

Aside from deleting the apps from Google Play, the report also revealed a decrease in downloads and gross app income in the first half of 2022.

The report detailed that Google Play users spent $21.3 billion in the first half of 2022 on in-app purchases, subscriptions, and premium applications, a seven per cent decrease from what Google earned in 2021.

Also, Google Play reported 55.3 billion downloads in the first six months, a 700 million decrease compared with last year.
