KINSHASA, Congo: A footbridge in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, collapsed while being inaugurated by VIPs, as captured on a video verified by Reuters.
Spectators shouted in apparent glee as the dignitaries struggled to get off the wrecked bridge.
The bridge, located in the Mont-Ngafula district, buckled while an organizer cut a ribbon at the ceremony, with both of its handrails breaking off, and its central section dropping into the stream below.
There were no reports of injuries.
