Succession, Ted Lasso, White Lotus walk away with top trophies at 74th annual awards show

HOUSTON, United States

HBO and Apple TV+ scored the biggest prizes during Monday night’s 74th annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California.

HBO’s Succession entered the night with the most nominations, 25, and scored the Emmy statuette for Outstanding Drama Series.

Also, Succession’s Matthew Macfayden won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama series.

The White Lotus, another HBO hit show, won the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett took home the statuettes for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a limited series, respectively. The show’s creator Mike White won the trophies for best writing and best directing.

Apple TV+ also walked away with one of the top awards of the night, with its hit show Ted Lasso winning the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series for the second consecutive year. The show had 20 overall nominations and its stars Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein took home the awards for Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a comedy series, respectively.

Zendaya took home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a drama series for HBO’s Euphoria and Lee Jung-jae scored the Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series for the Netflix hit Squid Game.

Julia Garner won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a drama series for Netflix’s Ozark.

Jean Smart walked away with the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series for the HBO Max show Hacks, while Sheryl Lee Ralph scored the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a comedy series for ABC’s Abbott Elementary.

Two Hulu productions took home Emmys with Michael Keaton winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a limited series for Hulu’s Dopesick and Amanda Seyfried getting the hardware for Outstanding Lead Actress in a limited series for Hulu’s The Dropout.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, while Saturday Night Live took home the statuette for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.
