CCPT chairperson Saratu Shafii had informed the committee that Multichoice recently filed a stay of execution of the tribunal’s judgement.

The House of Representatives Committee on Commerce wants Multichoice Nigeria Ltd., owners of DSTV and GOTV, to implement a “Pay-As-You-Go“ service in line with the judgement of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT).

The House aired its stance during the budget defence of the CCPT, the tribunal’s spokesperson Ayotomiwa Ayodele said in a statement on Saturday.

CCPT chairperson Saratu Shafii had informed the committee that Multichoice recently filed a stay of execution of the tribunal’s judgement.

The committee thereafter tasked the tribunal to ensure that the “Pay-As-You-Go“ stance was enforced to curb the unreasonable payment of unused services by Multichoice subscribers across the country.

Earlier, Ms Shafii had complained about the slashing of the tribunal’s budget by 38 per cent. She said this would adversely affect the performance of the body.

The lawmakers promised to look into the complaint of the tribunal arising from the cut in its 2023 budgetary provision to review the allocation.

The chairman of the house committee, Femi Fakeye, commended the tribunal for a job well done in the year under review.
