Pyongyang fired 3 short-range ballistic missiles earlier in morning, with 1 landing across its de facto maritime border with South Korea

ISTANBUL

North Korea fired six more missiles on Wednesday, bringing the total number of various types of missiles fired by the country in a single day toward the East and Yellow seas to at least 25, as tensions rise amid ongoing joint military exercises between South Korea and the US.

North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) earlier in the morning, with one missile landing across its de facto maritime border with South Korea for the first time since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

In June, North Korea also fired eight SRBMs in a single day, but this is the first time it has fired at least 25 missiles, some of which could not be detected, tracked, or intercepted, Yonhap News Agency reported.

According to BNO News, Wednesday’s missile launches by North Korea make 11% of all missile launches by the country since 1953.

The latest provocation appears to be in response to five-day large-scale combined air drills by South Korea and the US that kicked off on Monday amid growing speculation that Pyongyang may conduct a nuclear test soon.
