BEIJING,China: China reported 14,878 new COVID-19 infections on November 12, including 235 new cases in Beijing, up from 116 new cases one day earlier, local government data showed.

New Covid infections were also reported in manufacturing hubs Guangzhou and Zhengzhou.

Earlier Covid restrictions in Guangzhou and Zhengzhou had slowed the cities’ industrial output.

China’s National Health Commission reported this week that the Covid infections in China rose from 11,950 on November 11 to 14,761 new cases on November 12.

Guangzhou, which has a population of nearly 19 million people, reported 3,653 new Covid cases on November 12, up from 3,180 cases the day before.

In Zhengzhou city in Henan province, the location of Apple supplier Foxconn’s plant, there were a record 2,642 new daily cases.

Meanwhile, Foxconn officials have said they expect full production to resume during the second half of November. Operations were earlier slowed due to COVID restrictions.

The National Health Commission said in a statement on Sunday that the COVID prevention and control situation remained “serious and complex”.

“It is necessary to maintain strategic focus, and scientifically and accurately do the work of epidemic prevention and control,” it said.
