Al Rayyan, Qatar (dpa) – Germany have been fined 10,000 Swiss francs ($10,500) for not putting up a player for the pre-match news conference ahead of the World Cup game with Spain.
FIFA announced the sanction on Tuesday, which was accompanied by a warning.
Only coach Hansi Flick attended the obligatory media event the day before the 1-1 draw. At least one player should also have been there but Flick decided to spare them the long travelling time so they could better prepare for the match.
The next mandatory news conference for Germany will take place on Wednesday on the eve of the last and decisive group match against Costa Rica.
