The governor’s daughter was said to have gone against her parents wishes to marry her husband, Inuwa Uba.

AKano Sharia court judge has ordered journalists out of his courtroom before hearing the divorce case of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s daughter, Asiya Balaraba Ganduje.

Although Khadi Abdullahi Halliru agreed that everyone is equal before the law, he noted that the case of Mr Ganduje’s daughter “is a special case that need not be reported”.

The Sharia court judge maintained that the governor’s daughter does not need to be reported to the public and then opted to hear the case in his chamber.

Ms Ganduje is seeking to dissolve her 16-year-old marriage with her husband, Inuwa Uba, through Islamic Khuli principles, due to her being “fed up with the marriage”.

In contrast, Mr Uba insisted that he still loves his wife and pleaded for the court’s mercy for more time to settle the misunderstanding between them amicably.

The judge’s ruling on Mrs Balaraba’s application, however, permits the husband an ultimatum of two weeks to resolve the differences between him and his wife.

Years back, the governor’s daughter had stood against her parents in support of her husband whom the parents had accused of feeding on their wealth.

After she announced plans for divorce, armed security operatives were said to have broken into the couple’s residence at the Technical Staff Quarters in Kano and carted away documents for Mr Uba’s properties that include filling stations, a rice mill along the Kano-Zaria road, a house in Abuja, an event centre and many others.
