Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has accused Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of having regular meetings in Dubai with governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Wike was reacting to recent claims by members of his party loyal to Mr Abubakar that himself alongside governors Seyi Makide of Oyo, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okeizie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Samuel Ortom of Benue state, were considering a deal with Bola Tinubu of the APC.
“They said we had meeting with so and so. What is your problem? Assuming there was a meeting, has Atiku not been holding meetings with governors of APC?
“Ask him. As he is in Dubai, don’t we know what is going on? So, why do you bother about us? G5 that you said you can win without us; leave us alone,” Mr Wike said at the flag-off of a road project in Rivers on Friday.
The outgoing Rivers governor said rumours that he was set to throw his support behind any candidate was false and should be disregarded as he will announce when a decision has been made.
“So please focus on what we’re doing, forget all this their rumor mongering everyday…Tinubu has settled this one, Obi has settled this, Obasanjo has done this, this has done this.
“So you can see people instead of them to focus on their campaign…am I contesting election?” the Rivers State governor added.
If found to be true, the allegation that some APC governors were meeting with Mr Abubakar, could mean loss for the party’s flag bearer, Mr Tinubu.
