KHARTOUM, Sudan

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who arrived in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Thursday, met the North African country’s ruling military general, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said in an official statement.

“The two leaders have held a summit today, discussing the bilateral issues and how to boost the ties between the two nations and the common regional issues,” the Sudanese presidency said in a statement extended to Anadolu, without giving further details.

Local media said that the visiting Ethiopian premier will also hold talks on the current political situation in Sudan and the final political deal that is yet to be signed between the military and the Forces for Freedom and Change, a political coalition of civil and rebel groups in Sudan.

The two leaders will also discuss the ways to address the Tigray crisis in Ethiopia and the humanitarian situation of the Ethiopian refugees in eastern Sudan.

Ties between Sudan and Ethiopia are wavy due to disputes over the construction of the Nile dam, the border conflicts, and the mutual accusations of rebel support.
