BRUSSELS

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will not seek another extension of his term, according to his spokesperson.

Speaking to German media late Saturday, Oana Lungescu rebuffed reports of a planned “further extension,” saying the alliance chief’s term will end in October as planned.

Stoltenberg, who has been in office since 2014, has no intention of seeking another term at the alliance’s helm, she said.

Following the beginning of Russia’s war on Ukraine, NATO leaders last March decided to extend his term for another year.

Stoltenberg served as Norway’s finance minister in 1996-1997, followed by two stints as prime minister in 2000-2001 and 2005-2013.

Last February, he was tapped to be the governor of Norway’s central bank when his NATO tenure ends.
