Deploying AI to detect and highlight manipulation could be a major move at curbing the use of social media for misinformation.

Elon Musk, Twitter owner, says the micro-blogging platform will soon commence the use of artificial intelligence to detect and highlight how public opinions are manipulated on the platform.

“In the months ahead,” Mr Musk said, “we will use AI to detect & highlight manipulation of public opinion on this platform. Let’s see what the psy ops cat drags in…”

Mr Musk, who took over the micro-blogging platform ownership in October 2022, disclosed this in a tweet in the early hours of Friday.

Deploying AI to detect and highlight manipulation could be a major move at curbing the use of social media for misinformation.

Citing an Oxford University research in 2019, New York Times reported that 70 countries around the world have had disinformation campaigns championed by governments deploying social media.
