Sunday Kunle Adu, an alleged serial burglar, has been arrested for breaking into residential houses in Osi community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Mr Adu, a Ghanaian, was nabbed by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State, on Wednesday, in Akure.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested after he burgled one of the houses in the sleepy community on May 26, and allegedly stole two mobile phones.

The suspect, who lives at Abo Asakin in the Araromi axis of the Airport community in the same Akure North LGA, was said to have allegedly sold the phones to travellers en route to Ondo and Abuja.

Daniel Aidamembor, the spokesperson for the NSCDC in Ondo, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to reporters in Akure, adding that he was arrested through online and offline tracking conducted by the corps.

Mr Aidamembor revealed that Mr Adu was tracked by the Counter Terrorism Unit of the NSCDC command in Ondo through the ‘SIM Card’ in one of the stolen phones.

“An online and offline tracking were activated and conducted through the ‘SIM’ card on one of the stolen phones which led to the arrest of a soft target that led to the apprehending of one Sunday Kunle Adu, male, 21 years old, a Ghanaian with a Nigerian mother from Ikogosi Ekiti. He lives at Abo  Asakin in the Araromi axis of the Airport community in Akure North.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to selling one of the phones to a traveller who was going to Abuja for N30,000 at Shasha market,” he told reporters.

According to him, items allegedly stolen by the suspect include Infinix Hot 8 valued at N95,000, Techno Pop 3 worth N75,000 and N70,000 cash belonging to the complainants.

Mr Aidamembor, however, explained that the suspect already made a confessional statement and would be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
