Yobe State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), has expressed support and solidarity for the industrial action embarked upon by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, (PASAN), and Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, (JUSUN).

In a statement signed by the Council’s Chairman, Muktar Musa Tarbutu and made available to newsmen in Damaturu, the council appreciates the unions for demanding their rights over financial autonomy of national and state Houses of Assembly as well as Judicial Commission in the country.

“It could be recalled that President Muhammudu Buhari had approved financial autonomy for the above-mentioned organizations, but it’s yet to be implemented,” Tarbutu frowns.

NLC in Yobe State in the statement called on the striking PASAN and JUSUN members not to relent in their efforts, but rather continue to press home their demands “appropriately without any breach of law and order”.

He pledged continued support and partnership in pursuing the struggle of enhanced welfare of their members.

Recall that Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, (PASAN), had on 23rd March, 2021 sealed the entrance to the Yobe State House of Assembly Complex in Damaturu, thereby truncating activities of the lawmakers.

PASAN Chairman, Yobe State Chapter, Comrade Zanna Ali, noted that the move was in solidarity with the directives from the National Body of the Association to embark on an indefinite strike action in response to the non-implementation of the Financial Autonomy act of 2018 and Presidential Order 10 of 2020 by the federal government.
