Appeal court threw law, facts overboard in presidential election ruling: PDP

The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, says that yesterday’s ruling of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) which affirmed President Bola Tinubu as the valid winner of the February 25 presidential election threw law and facts overboard.

Mr Damagum added that the ruling brought shock to lawyers, international observers and all lovers of democracy and that the party will continue to pursue its mandate.

He delivered this speech at an ongoing press conference of the party which has in attendance its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and other national officers.

This is the party’s first official statement since the contentious ruling was delivered and clearly shows that the last has not been heard as the struggle to upturn the declared results of the election invalid.

This statement signals that the PDP is gearing up for a protracted legal battle to challenge the election’s declared results, refusing to accept defeat and ensuring that every avenue for justice is explored exhaustively. As the nation watches with bated breath, the aftermath of the ruling promises to be a pivotal chapter in the country’s political landscape.
