Nigerian clergy convene in Abuja to pray for Deputy Commissioner Abba Kyari, showcasing solidarity amidst the nation’s security and governance crisis.

The Nigerian Cleric Council of Bishops and Imams, in a remarkable show of solidarity, convened at the Unity Fountain in Abuja to pray for the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari. The session, held on March 8, 2024, underscored the clergy’s deep concern over Nigeria’s spiraling security dilemma and their appeal to President Bola Tinubu for Kyari’s release.

Bishop Lawrence Ngene, leading the initiative, articulated the clerics’ collective distress over the nation’s dire straits, marred by violence and socio-economic turmoil. The gathering, in collaboration with Leadwell Africa Global Initiative, not only sought divine intervention for peace but also rallied support for Nigeria’s leadership in these tumultuous times. The clergy’s message was clear: the nation’s unity and prosperity hinge on collective effort and divine guidance.

The clerics’ prayers extended beyond Kyari’s release, touching on the broader themes of justice, governance, and societal well-being. They lamented the erosion of public trust in key institutions, from the judiciary to the electoral system, attributing these challenges to rampant corruption, insecurity, and economic hardship. Their poignant reflections painted a picture of a nation yearning for redemption, with Kyari’s case symbolizing the broader struggle against the forces of discord and malaise.

In their fervent prayers, the bishops and imams underscored the pivotal role Abba Kyari and his team could play in rejuvenating Nigeria’s beleaguered security landscape. Recalling Kyari’s previous successes in combating high-profile criminals, the clerics posited that his reinstatement could significantly mitigate the pervasive fear and insecurity plaguing the nation. Their appeals to President Tinubu and other governmental bodies were imbued with a sense of urgency, highlighting the critical need for tested and trusted leadership in times of crisis.

As the prayer session concluded, the Nigerian Cleric Council of Bishops and Imams left a resonant message: the path to peace and stability in Nigeria is through unity, empathy, and decisive leadership. Their prayers for Abba Kyari transcended individual concerns, embodying a collective yearning for a future where justice and security reign supreme.
