Sen. Basheer Garba Mohammed, Federal Commissioner,  National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI),  has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the rescue of the students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, who were abducted on Dec. 11.

Garba, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina on Sunday, also praised Gov. Aminu Masari for his commitment towards ensuring the safe release of the boys.

He said the rescue showed that the current administration was committed to ensuring the safety and protection of the citizenry.

He urged Nigerians to promote peace and harmony in their communities in the interest of the unity and development of the country.

Garba said that the NCFRMI was collaborating with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to eliminate the hardships being faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

He said in spite of government’s effort to reduce the hardships of IDPs there was a growing need to provide accommodation for them.

He said that the commission would build 600 housing units of two bedrooms each in Katsina State for the resettlement and reintegration of IDPs.

“The resettlement centre will have primary healthcare facility, school, security post and recreational facilities.

“We shall also give loans to the IDPs so that they can go back to their businesses. We shall implement similar projects in Edo and Zamfara.
