Many protesters were tear-gassed, beaten to stupor and violently marched by security operatives in Kano on the third day of the nationwide #EndHunger protest.
In a viral video online, a police armoured personnel carrier charged towards hundreds of protesters at full speed as water cannons and tear gas were fired to disperse the protesters.
As the protesters were trying to run for safety, other police officers who were on foot chased the youths and violently battered many of them to stupor with sticks.
Scenes of brutal force by security operatives characterised the containment of the widespread protests by the Nigerian authorities.
The protest, which began on Thursday, witnessed high-handed tactics by security agents.
According to Amnesty International, 13 people were killed by security operatives on the first day of protest alone — the organisation recorded that six people were killed in Niger state with dozens of others injured, four were killed in Borno state while three deaths were reported in Kaduna.
The Nigeria Police Force has denied the report made by Amnesty International, claiming terrorists and vigilantes were responsible for the murder of protesters across several locations in the country.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu is expected to address the country at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday after three days of protests marred by police brutality and hoodlums on the rampage.
