MOSCOW

Russia claimed Tuesday that it seized a key logistics hub in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.

A statement by the Defense Ministry claimed Russian forces captured the settlement of Niu-York and “defeated” a large group of Ukrainian troops.

Niu-York is located about 7.2 kilometers (4.4 miles) south of the industrial city of Toretsk, a key front in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukraine’s General Staff said in a morning statement that clashes between Russian and Ukrainian troops continued in Toretsk and nearby rural and urban areas, including Niu-York.

Ukrainian authorities did not comment on the claims as of 1230GMT and independent verification is difficult due to the ongoing war.
