Pope Francis has described leading presidential candidates for U.S. election, Kamala Harris of Democratic Party and former American President Donald Trump as two evils out of which American voters should chose the “lesser evil.”

On Friday, the cleric, in a news conference aboard the papal plane, urged Americans to choose the “lesser evil” in the forthcoming election in November.

“One should vote, and choose the lesser evil,” Mr Francis said. “Who is the lesser evil, the woman or man? I don’t know. Everyone in their conscience should think and do it.

The cleric bluntly described election promises of the two candidates as “against life.”

“Both are against life, be it the one who kicks out migrants, or be it the one who kills babies,″ Mr Francis said, reference to Mr Trump threats to deport illegal immigrants and Ms Harris pro-abortion campaign promise.

Speaking about Ms Harris pro-abortion campaign promise, Mr Francis said “To have an abortion is to kill a human being. You may like the word or not, but it’s killing. We have to see this clearly.”

Mr Trump and Harris had a debate on Wednesday in which they both defended their positions on economy, immigration, abortion amongst other issues.

The former president has reiterated his plans to deport illegal immigrants in the U.S., while Ms Harris supported abortion rights for female citizens.
