The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Okitipupa has decried abandoned projects in the institutions by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

Temi Ologunorisa, the vice-chancellor of the state-owned university, said the institution needed more infrastructure to accommodate the increasing population of students.

Mr Ologunorisa spoke on Saturday when the State House of Assembly Committee on Tertiary Institutions paid an oversight visit to the campus.

The vice-chancellor said the abandoned hostels needed to be completed and urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene by beckoning the NDDC and OSOPADEC management to complete them.

He pleaded with Mr Aiyedatiwa to call on the contractor handling the 2.5 km road construction inside the school to return to the site and ensure the speedy completion of the Maritime Academy in Ugbo Nla by OSOPADEC.

Mr Ologunorisa appealed to the governor to release the N1 billion allocated in the 2024 budget to complete the School of Science Building, which was abandoned for years.

The VC, however, pleaded with the governor to establish the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, like the federal government, to harness the state’s vast coastal resources.

Remarking, the state assembly committee chairman, Chris Ayebusiwa, lauded the university’s management’s efforts, assuring that decisive actions would be taken to complete the abandoned projects.
