Some opposition coalition lawmakers have raised alarm over an alleged plot to keep the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Umar Damagun in office till 2027.
The aggrieved lawmakers alleged that the plot to weaken the party in a statement by its spokesman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, on Sunday.
He said, “Today we have a political party, the PDP, that’s supposed to lead the opposition but is not doing so because they have hijacked the heartbeat of the opposition party.”
According to him, some powerful people within the party have perfected plans to ensure that the National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP to choose a chairman from North-Central was unsuccessful.
He said the plan was to ensure that the current acting national chairman of the party stayed in office till 2027 so they could impose a weak presidential candidate on the party.
“We have impostors among us, and the ruling party will be laughing at them now that they want to sabotage their own party. First they said there was a Sallah holiday, and they shifted it, since last year they kept on shifting the NEC meeting.
“Till now, no NEC meeting; they keep on giving different excuses. The national leaders of PDP are frolicking with the ruling party leaders,” he said.
He berated some PDP governors for frolicking with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) just to be allowed to control their respective states.
