Another Lagos-bound truck crashes in Niger, 8 persons, livestock dead

“The vehicle carried 130 sheep and an unspecified number of people leaving Katsina for Lagos.”

No fewer than eight persons, as well as 28 sheep have died after an articulated vehicle traveling to Lagos from Katsina crashed at Batati village in Lavun Local Government Area of the state.

The sad incident comes few days after another truck conveying passengers and motorcycles from Katsina also crashed in Wuya village, Lemu Local Government Area of Niger State, Peoples Gazette reported.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adamu Usman, said on Tuesday that other people sustained various degree injuries when the accident occurred on Monday.

Mr Usman said that the accident occurred when the driver of an articulated vehicle marked BG 429 KMC lost control.

He said that the vehicle carried 130 sheep and an unspecified number of people leaving Katsina for Lagos.

“Eight people and 28 sheep died on the spot while several others who sustained various degree of injuries were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kutigi for treatment.

“We have begun an investigation and we warn drivers to desist from carrying passengers on articulated vehicles.
