The police command in Bauchi State has begun a probe into the death of a 20-year-old housewife allegedly murdered in her matrimonial home on February 28.

The spokesperson for the command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the commencement of investigation to journalists on Thursday in Bauchi,

He said that the case was reported on March 3, by one Mr Sale Isa, a resident of Anguwan Sarakuna, who claimed that the death was suspicious.

He stated, “Family members raised concerns, suggesting that her co-wife might have been involved.’’

According to the spokesperson, the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, assigned a specialised team of detectives from the C Divisional Police Headquarters to carry out the investigation.

“Their efforts led to the arrest of a 28-year-old woman, the deceased’s co-wife, who is now in custody,” Wakil said.

According to him, preliminary findings show that the suspect strangled her co-wife to death.

“In an attempt to cover up the crime, she reportedly poured boiling water on the body and set it on fire using a melting Bagco sack,” Mr Wakil said.

He said that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

He added that the CP assembled a team of experienced homicide detectives to gather evidence and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the death.

“The investigation may involve exhumation and use of forensic tools to ascertain all facts,” Mr Wakil said.
