The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Mr Musa made the pledge while receiving the United Nations resident and humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Fall, in Abuja.

The defence chief urged the UN to partner state governments to ensure the return of displaced persons and refugees to their respective communities while also urging it to seek partnerships for global security.

Mr Musa restated the importance of civil-military relations, saying it was more impactful than kinetic means of operations.

The UN resident and humanitarian coordinator described the UN’s long-standing relationship with the Nigerian military as mutually beneficial.

He added that the Nigerian military was one of the greatest contributors to the UN peacekeeping missions and called for more support for the region’s stability.

Mr Fall commended Nigeria’s roles in maintaining peace in Africa and other parts of the world, adding that Nigeria was a key participant and supporter of UN operations.

He called for support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, saying that the country is important to the UN due to its demography and provision of leadership in Africa.
