Sunday Sermon – Carried Through: Experiencing the Healing Power of Jesus Christ.
Text: Mathew 9:1-8; Psalm 107:20
I. Introduction
Dearly beloved, today we gather to proclaim the mighty and wonderful works of our Lord Jesus Christ. We come to testify of His healing power, which is able to carry us through our brokenness and heal our deepest wounds.
As we reflect on the healing power of Jesus Christ, I am reminded of the countless individuals who have been touched by His love and mercy. From the paralytic who was healed in Matthew 9:1-8, to the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:21-43, to the blind man in John 9:1-38, we see a consistent pattern of Jesus’ compassion and healing power.
II. The Healing Power of Jesus Christ
The healing power of Jesus Christ is not limited to physical healing alone. It encompasses emotional, spiritual, and relational healing as well. In Matthew 9:1-8, we read of the paralytic who was not only physically healed but also spiritually restored. Jesus said to him, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven” (Matthew 9:2).
This story teaches us that Jesus is not only concerned with our physical well-being but also with our spiritual well-being. He desires to forgive our sins, to heal our broken hearts, and to restore our relationship with God.
Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of Jesus’ healing power. He healed the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:21-43), the blind man (John 9:1-38), and the crippled man (Acts 14:8-10). He even raised the dead (John 11:1-44)!
But Jesus’ healing power is not limited to the physical realm. He also heals our emotional and spiritual wounds. He comforts the brokenhearted (Psalm 51:17), delivers us from our afflictions (2 Corinthians 1:3-4), and gives us spiritual sight (John 9:1-38).
III. The Brokenhearted
Are you brokenhearted today? Are you struggling with emotional pain, rejection, or abandonment? Jesus Christ is able to carry you through your brokenness and heal your deepest wounds.
In Psalm 51:17, David writes, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” David understood that a broken heart is not a liability but an opportunity for God to work in our lives.
Jesus Christ is the Great Physician who can heal our broken hearts. He is the One who can take our pain and turn it into purpose. He is the One who can take our brokenness and turn it into beauty.
IV. The Sick and the Afflicted
Are you sick or afflicted today? Are you struggling with physical pain, chronic illness, or disability? Jesus Christ is able to carry you through your sickness and affliction and heal your deepest wounds.
In Matthew 14:14, we read, “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His healing power is still available today.
V. The Blind and the Crippled
Are you blind or crippled today? Are you struggling with spiritual blindness, emotional numbness, or physical disability? Jesus Christ is able to carry you through your blindness and crippledness and heal your deepest wounds.
In John 9:1-38, we read of the blind man who was healed by Jesus. Jesus spat on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man’s eyes. The man went and washed, and his sight was restored.
This story teaches us that Jesus Christ is the Light of the world who can give us spiritual sight. He is the One who can take our blindness and turn it into sight. He is the One who can take our crippledness and turn it into wholeness.
VI. Conclusion
Dearly beloved, I want to leave you with a message of hope and encouragement today. Jesus Christ is able to carry you through your brokenness and heal your deepest wounds.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His healing power is still available today. So, let us come to Him with faith, trusting in His ability to heal and restore us.
May God bless you, and may you be carried through your brokenness by the healing power of Jesus Christ.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You today with our brokenness and our pain. We ask that You would heal our hearts, our minds, and our bodies. We ask that You would carry us through our difficulties and our challenges.
We thank You for the healing power of Jesus Christ, and we ask that You would manifest that power in our lives today. May we experience Your presence today and always, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
