Mustapha of no fixed address is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

He however pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offence on May 1 at about 10 p.m., at Ipole Iloro- Ekiti.

Mr Oriyomi said that the defendant and others now at large stole five goats valued at N600, 000.

He said that the defendant was apprehended by the community and handed to the police.

He said the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Michael Olaleye, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until June 2 for hearing.
