FCT minister Nyesom Wike says he is finding it difficult to grasp the extent of the suspended Governor Simi Fubara’s betrayal of trust.

In a media chat on Monday, Mr Wike, portraying himself as a godfather, likened Mr Fubara to a son he raised and made a governor.

“In my quiet moment, I play the video of the speeches of the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, (and) what he said and did to me. I weep,” Mr Wike said.

Accusing Mr Fubara of betraying him after he made him governor, Mr Wike said, “This was somebody I brought to government, gave him food and everything, but he became a tool for my enemies to fight me.”

To further illustrate his experience with Mr Fubara, Mr Wike said, “You know what you pass through to send your son to school. All of a sudden, your son comes with a gun to shoot you. Tell me it is something that will go away from your mind just like that?”

In March, amid a power tussle between Mr Fubara and lawmakers loyal to his godfather, Mr Wike, Mr Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Mr Fubara, his deputy and all elected officials.

Last month, the FCT minister accused Mr Fubara of being the brains behind the walkout on the first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, by a group of women allegedly loyal to the suspended governor.
