Honey and humans have a history stretching back before domesticated animals, baked goods, or farms. For humans to first encounter honey over 10,000 years ago would have found it inside of a wild bee’s nest and, for some reason, decided to taste the sweet spoils.

In a time when fruit was the sweetest thing they had ever tasted, honey seemed like a revelation from the gods. In the earliest centuries, nearly every culture had a myth explaining the immortal sweetness of honey.

For thousands of years, the only foolproof method of gathering honey was to find a wild hive — the locations of which were fiercely guarded. The first “domesticated” beehive likely traces back to the Egyptians. The earliest apiarists made hives from old logs or tree trunks to mimic the homes of wild swarms.

Unadulterated Honey

Honey is higher in fructose than glucose and Fructose is sweeter than glucose. Honey is used to treat far more serious health conditions than the simple sore throat. Honey has been used as a salve to heal burns and prevent infections for thousands of years, according to the Mayo Clinic in United States of America.

Other health benefits of Honey include: rich in antioxidants; less bad for diabetes than sugar; helps improve cholesterol; help lower triglycerides; helps suppress coughs in children; and many other beneficial gains to human health.

Since 2015, De Honey Hub, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, has been in the business of marketing and sales of unadulterated honey to thousands of homes across Nigeria.

According to the MD/CEO, Mrs. Chinenye Ezeugo, she became passionate about honey and its benefits, when she used it for her hair, facial and body; the glow and softness of her skin, convinced her to explore the market and business potentials of honey business.

For over five years now, De Honey Hub she founded has blossomed but still need capital and enhanced business processes to scale up her operations to more states in Nigeria. She is daily becoming a honey advocate, adviser and expert in the best and most beneficial use of honey in the home.

Mrs. Ezeugo, is not only passionate about honey. Recognizing the importance of healthy diet to protect against malnutrition in all its forms, as well as noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), like diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer, she has been a key proponent and practitioner of healthy eating for herself and her family. A lifestyle that has positively impacted her physique and health for good.
