A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the immediate recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume her legislative duties at the National Assembly, ruling that her six-month suspension by the Senate is excessive and unconstitutional.
The court, in its judgment delivered on Friday, held that the suspension of the Kogi Central lawmaker contravenes Section 14(2) of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, which limits any legislative suspension to a maximum of 14 days.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was controversially suspended on March 6, 2025. The Senate had accused her of misconduct during plenary, including allegedly refusing to sit where she was assigned, speaking without recognition, and making what the chamber described as “unsubstantiated” allegations during a heated debate.
Her suspension came shortly after she filed a petition against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of sexual harassment—an allegation the Senate dismissed and instead turned disciplinary action against her.
In addition to the suspension, the Senate leadership sealed her office, froze her entitlements, withdrew her security personnel, and revoked her access to the National Assembly complex
