Governor Douye Diri has approved the appointment of Wisdom Sawyer as the head of the civil service.

This is contained in a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah, on Tuesday in Yenagoa.

The appointment of Mr Sawyer, a permanent secretary in the state Ministry of Health, followed the retirement of Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema on August 31.

Mr Sawyer joined the Bayelsa Civil Service on June 8, 1998, as a medical officer. He was born on May 14, 1970, in the Odi community of Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, and began his education at Town School in Okrika, Rivers.

Mr Sawyer attended Okrika Grammar School, where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1986.

In 1988, Mr Sawyer gained admission to the University of Port Harcourt and obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1996.

He also attended the University of Lagos for a master’s degree programme in public health in 2000.

He enrolled in the National Postgraduate Medical College, Lagos, in 2005 and obtained Part 2 Fellowship in Public Health in 2010.
