Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has been remanded in Kuje Prison.

Mr Ejimakor, who was arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest on Monday, stated he was remanded in Kuje Prison, in a post in X on Tuesday.

“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje prison,” Mr Ejimakor said, saying, “The Magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way,”

The lawyer added, “For context: Keep in mind that they bypassed several Magistrates’ courts in town and headed to this one in Kuje.”

Mr Ejimakor’s remand in prison 24 hours after he was arrested during the protests followed a statement by Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of unethical conduct.

The presidential spokesperson in a post on X on Monday claimed that Mr “Ejimakor’s  action questions his adherence to professional ethics. Legal authorities should consider appropriate sanctions for the unethical conduct of the bearded lawyer.”

The arrest and detention of Mr Ejimakor followed the Omoyele Sowore-led #FreeNnamdiKanu protest held on Monday.

The protest disrupted commercial and business activities in Abuja and other states in the South-East on Monday.
