Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun chapter, Ganiyu Musefiu, on Saturday, said that plans were underway to commence digital registration of farmers in the state.
Mr Musefiu made this known in a separate interview with journalists in Osogbo.
He said that the national body of AFAN had embarked on digital registration of its members nationwide, adding that the Osun chapter is billed to begin its registration in the coming weeks, and a date will be announced after modalities have been put in place
According to him, the registration will afford farmers the opportunity to benefit from agricultural programmes made available to the association by the government.
He noted that in line with AFAN’s commitment to the well-being of farmers nationwide, a central information unit with a toll-free line had been created for farmers to make findings and complaints where necessary.
Mr Musefiu urged farmers to take advantage of the registration, to be part of the association, so as to benefit from the various opportunities provided by government and AFAN.
The AFAN boss also appealed to the state government to give due attention to farming and farmers, to encourage more people, especially youths, to take up farming.
He harped on the importance of food sufficiency in the state and region, adding that a severe food shortage could occur if supplies from other regions were cut off.
The chairman consequently urged the state government to ensure that only real and practising farmers are beneficiaries of its agricultural programmes.
