Microsoft faced disruptions in its Azure cloud and 365 services on Wednesday, just hours before the company’s quarterly financial results were set to be released.
The outage, which began around 11.40 am ET (1540GMT), has affected numerous websites and services, with more than 6,000 problem reports submitted to the monitoring platform Downdetector.
“We are investigating an issue with the Azure Portal where customers may be experiencing issues accessing the portal,” the company said.
It added that it suspects an “inadvertent configuration change” triggered the outage and that it is “rolling back to our last known good state” for AFD services.
Microsoft said it anticipates “recovery to happen” by 7.20 pm ET. “Although we are seeing signs of recovery and have an estimated timeline, customers may also consider implementing failover strategies using Azure Traffic Manager to redirect traffic from Azure Front Door to their origin servers as an interim measure,” the company added.
Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines reported disruptions to key systems, including their websites, citing issues with Microsoft’s Azure cloud services.
Microsoft said later that it has deployed a stable configuration and is actively balancing traffic and monitoring systems to ensure full recovery.
