Former labour minister Chris Ngige is currently being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged fraudulent transactions involving a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity linked to him.
The former Anambra governor, who is being held at the Abuja zonal office of the EFCC in Wuse, was arrested on Wednesday and is currently being interrogated by EFCC investigators.
“Mr Ngige is currently being interrogated at our Abuja zonal office,” a source told Peoples Gazette. “The commission is investigating some fraudulent transactions running into billions, which were carried out in one of the parastatals under the Ministry of Labour while Ngige was minister.”
The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, has been contacted for comment.
However, this was not the first time Mr Ngige had been linked to corruption. During his tenure as a minister, Mr Ngige was questioned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over alleged contract irregularities and claims of job racketeering in the Social Insurance Trust Fund, a parastatal under his ministry.
