The federal government has said President Bola Tinubu appointed ambassadors in response to the cries and agitations of Nigerians.
Minister of information, Muhammed Idris, stated this during the ministry of information end-of-the-year press briefing held in Abuja on Monday.
“Before these times, we have had cries and agitations for ambassadors to be put on their posts. So President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled that,” Mr Idris said.
The ambassorial list generated controversies among Nigerians seeking removal of some names.
Nigerians particularly condemned the inclusion of a former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode and ex-presidential aide, Reno Omokri, in the ambassorial list.
However, Mr Idris said the new ambassadors would resume their posts in 2026, emphasising the need to strengthen Nigeria’s bilateral relations and visibility on the global community.
“In 2026, our newly appointed ambassadors will take off their posts in their respective countries of assignments since their clearance and confirmation were just made by the National Assembly.
“This is strengthening our bilateral relations and advancing our visibility and strategic engagement in the global community,” the minister stated.
